What Are Mobility Devices? Mobility devices are tools designed to help individuals with limited mobility navigate their environments and maintain independence. These include:

  • Wheelchairs (manual and power)
  • Walkers
  • Mobility scooters
  • Motorized chairs

Benefits of Mobility Devices Investing in the right mobility aid can transform lives. Here are a few key benefits:

  • Increased Independence: Mobility devices empower clients to move freely and perform daily tasks with confidence.
  • Enhanced Safety: They reduce the risk of falls and related injuries.
  • Better Quality of Life: Clients can participate more actively in their personal and social lives.

Understanding the Assistive Devices Program (ADP) The ADP is a vital resource for Ontario residents with long-term physical disabilities. It helps cover the cost of customized mobility equipment, ensuring access to essential tools like power wheelchairs and mobility scooters.

Eligibility for the ADP To qualify for the ADP, you must:

  • Be a resident of Ontario with a valid health card.
  • Have a disability requiring the equipment or supplies for six months or longer.

Exclusions You are not eligible if:

  • You are receiving financial support for the same equipment from the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board or Veterans Affairs Canada.

Coverage Details

  • ADP covers 75% of the cost for most mobility aids. Clients pay the remaining 25%.
  • For those receiving financial support from programs like Ontario Works or the Ontario Disability Support Program, ADP covers 100% of the cost.

Types of Mobility Aids Covered by ADP The ADP supports a wide range of mobility aids, including:

  • Manual and power wheelchairs
  • Mobility scooters
  • Power add-ons for manual wheelchairs
  • Positioning devices (cushions, back and head supports)
